An interview with our DAISEC core partner it.emsland about orientation, structure, and concrete next steps for SMEs
Artificial intelligence has become part of everyday life for many people, but companies are asking themselves: Where do we actually stand? Are we ready to use AI? And waht's the best place to start?
That's where the AI Quick-Check comes in, which is carried out by our DAISEC core partner it.emsland. In this interview, we explain what the format is all about, who it is suitable for, and how exactly companies can benefit from it.
“For many companies all this feels disoriented at the beginning.”
What was the starting point for the development of the AI check?
it.emsland: We have noticed that many companies tend to be rather disoriented when it comes to integrating AI into their business processes. It is often assumed that this is primarily a technical challenge. In practice, however, it is clear that digitalization—and AI in particular—is above all an organizational and cultural task.
Before a company launches an AI project, it first needs to take an honest look at where it stands: Where are we currently? Are we structurally and organizationally ready?
The AI Quick Check was developed precisely to meet this need.
What exactly is the AI quick check?
it.emsland: The AI Quick Check is a guideline-based interview format that enables a structured assessment of a company's AI readiness within a short period of time.
The interview takes place on site or via video conference and usually lasts 45 minutes. It is followed by a 15-minute discussion of the results. At the end, the company receives a structured assessment with specific recommendations for action.
It is important to note that the check is not a comprehensive maturity model, but rather a well-founded, practical initial assessment. It provides guidance without overwhelming the reader and clarifies the next sensible steps to take.
Who is this Quick Check made for?
it.emsland: The AI check is suitable for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across all industries, as well as for start-ups and new businesses. It is useful for both AI beginners and companies that are already advanced in their use of AI.
Our experience shows that even companies that are already heavily involved in AI benefit from structured reflection. The standardized questions encourage reflection, regardless of the level of knowledge to date.
How exactly does the Quick-Check work?
it.emsland: Companies contact it.emsland either individually or via special AI consultation days with bookable time slots. During the consultation, four key dimensions are examined using a structured guide. These dimensions are based on many years of experience in digitization and innovation projects.
This is explicitly not just about technology, but also includes:
- organization requirements
- strategic clarity of objectives
- internal competencies
- concrete application ideas
At the end, companies receive an assessment and a clear classification:
- Where do we stand?
- Which requirements have already been met?
- Where are additional actions needed?
- Wha are the next sensible steps?
What does happen after the AI-Quick-Check?
it.emsland: One major advantage of the check is its connectivity. Depending on the initial situation, there are suitable follow-up offers, such as events for beginners or advanced users, professional support in implementing specific use cases, and networking with experts.
This is where the DAISEC network comes full circle: when it comes to implementation, specialist knowledge, or technological expertise, companies receive support from DAISEC experts.
No one is left alone after the AI quick check: Not only is guidance provided, but also access to specialized support for practical implementation.
How does the check help advanced companies?
Many companies are already coming up with concrete AI ideas. The questions often asked are:
"Are we actually ready?"
"Are we overlooking anything?"
"Where do we start?"
The AI quick check provides reliable confirmation or highlights specific areas for optimization. Interestingly, no company has yet achieved a perfect score in the check. This means that there is always room for further development.
The advantages at a glance
- Quick, structured assessment of your current situation
- Orientation in the complex field of AI
- Focus on organization and people, not just technology
- Specific recommendations for action
- Suitable follow-up offers at DAISEC
- Can be used regardless of industry and size
Conclusion: Clarity instead of AI overload
Artificial intelligence can open up enormous potential for companies, but the introduction must be structured. Instead of being overwhelmed by the complexity of the topic, companies receive guidance, structure, and concrete perspectives. The AI quick check helps to take the first step confidently, assess the initial situation realistically, and plan the next steps in a targeted manner.
