How does an idea become a functional component - straight from the 3D printer?
Our practical workshop ‘From prototyping to series production’,which took place on 26 June 2025 at the Institute of Design Engineering of our core partner TU Braunschweig, provided answers to these questions. The workshop gave participants from small and medium-sized enterprises a sound insight into economical 3D printing processes - from the technology presentation to post-processing.
The highlights of the day:
- Best practices from the field - Successful 3D printing applications impressively demonstrated how far the technology has already come in industrial use.
- Technologies you can touch - The participants prepared the 3D printing systems themselves and learnt how to use the various systems safely.
- From the idea to the component - CAD models of the participants were realised using material extrusion (MEX) and vat photopolymerisation (VPP) - a practical experience from design to the finished object.
- Post-processing included - The post-processing of the components was not neglected either - an important step in order to fulfil the requirements for functionality and quality.
We are delighted with the interest shown by our participants and are already looking forward to the next round of our four-part training programme on digital manufacturing.
